Downhole Drilling Dynamics
Well ID offers high frequency pressure and drilling dynamics measurements. The novel tools measure inner and outer annulus pressure, Weight on Bit (WoB), Torque on Bit (ToB), Bending on Bit (BoB) at 100 Hz and accelerometer data at 1220 Hz. This allows the well team to deeply understand the downhole environment, particularly the causes for borehole instability and drillstring wear.
Well ID runs Petromar’s(Nabors) DrillViewTM tool to collect high frequency pressure and drilling dynamics data. The tool is a short self-contained sub that can be fitted anywhere in the drillstring.
High Frequency Drilling Dynamics Technology:
High frequency downhole pressure and drilling dynamics allows effective root cause analysis of downhole drilling dysfunctions. For example, by understanding where and when the downhole pressure exceeds safe thresholds, stick-slip occurs, or torque on bit increases, the cause can be linked and (hopefully) remediated. Coupling drilling dynamics with borehole imaging tools like the 4D Caliper, an even more complete picture of cause and effect can be determined.
Applications
- Pressure control
- Stick-slip cause/mitigations
- Identify cause of doglegs, spirals
- Verify geomechanics models
- Understand/mitigate bit wear
